Day 8

Started like any other typical day at Far and Away farms. Trying to keep the ponies off of the kitchen table. Oops, sorry, thats not a pony thats Banjo. The 95# rescue puppy who after Terry adopted him she discovered didn't like to load into the car. Thank heavens for the generosity of strangers. Who are not afraid to lift really large dogs into strange ladies cars when they appear to be distressed damsels.
First stop was the vets office to make sure all was well with her new 2 year old. Oops again.  He is only 8 months old and still growing.
The saddle is on order.

Next step, beautiful downtown Aiken SC to run errands. First stop the paint store. Looks
like somebody has their work cut out for them.

Bruce found a really nifty little gadget for painting lines on speed bumps and along the side of the road. Who knew such a cool thing even existed.

Aiken really is a very pretty little southern town.
It was the Winter Colony for the horse racing crowd. A place where young horses came to be started while it was still too cold up north. A half way point for thoroughbreds heading for the winter tracks in Florida. Where families like the Vanderbuilts and the Duponts came to socialize with the southern elite in a softer, gentler clime. Polo and fox hunting were the entertainments of the day followed by parties and galas late into the night. It was the playground of the rich and famous.

And today the home of a really sweet little brew pub. Lunch anyone?  Cobb salad?
Home made French Onion Soup with a sandwich? How about
wings, in your choice of 6 flavors that you can mix and match.
A quick walk thru town brings you to the
Aiken Art Center.
A wonderfully creative place that displays the works of the professionals as well as the children who are taking classes.
Being just down the road from Augusta
they have become really creative with
unwanted golf clubs.

Wonder if they found these in
the water trap?

No sooner had we gotten home than it was time to go to dinner.
Maria's is a little family owned Mexican restaurant that serves
wonderful home cooked dished. We ate like piggies, again. A disaster was averted as we were pulling out of the parking lot after dinner and we noticed our very cute waiter standing in front of the restaurant holding a rather disgruntled Wanda.
We told her we were leaving and she somehow just got forgotten. Maybe she will pay more attention.

Aiken is one of the more restful stops planned on our adventures. And
we are beat. So goodnight sweet peeps, chat again tomorrow.

Kisses and hugs to all.
